How to communicate in the hotel?

Contents

It's no secret that for many, the motive for learning English is the upcoming vacation trip abroad. To make the rest complete, you need to have time to try everything: feel the local flavor, eat at a local cafe, wander around the local market, chat with the locals, after all. For many, such a routine turns out to be a nightmare due to one small obstacle: insufficiently formed skills to conduct everyday conversation in a foreign language. Even a hotel stay sometimes becomes spoiled due to misunderstandings with foreign staff.

Let's first try to remove these difficulties, starting with check-in at the hotel and ending with check-out. In our mini-phrasebook you will find your holiday in terms of hotel communication.

  • I would like to check in.
  • What is the check-out time?
  • Do you have a reservation?
  • Sorry, I don’t have your name in my computer.
  • Could you spell your name, please?
  • Can I have your passport, please?
  • Is the room reserved on the Visa card?
  • How are going to pay?
  • I need to fill out a registration card.
  • Breakfast is served from 8.30 to 11.30.
  • Do you need any help with the bags?
  • The shower/ telephone/ TV in my room is broken.
  • Could you please have the shower repaired?
  • I think there is a mistake in the bill.

  • I never ordered room service.
  • Could I speak to the supervisor, please?
  • How long will this take?

And, of course, do not forget about the elementary forms and norms of politeness.
